چکیده

Bayesian Knowledge Tracing (BKT)[1] is a user modeling method extensively used in the area of Intelligent Tutoring Systems. In the standard BKT implementation, there are only skill-specific parameters. However, a large body of research strongly suggests that studentspecific variability in the data, when accounted for, could enhance model accuracy [5, 6, 8]. In this work, we revisit the problem of introducing student-specific parameters into BKT on a larger scale. We show that student-specific parameters lead to a tangible improvement when predicting the data of unseen students, and that parameterizing students’ speed of learning is more beneficial than parameterizing a priori knowledge.

Regularizing Student Parameters of Individualized Bayesian Knowledge Tracing Model

We propose a workflow to be implemented in a new workflows architecture of the LearnSphere We present the motivation and initial validation of the value of regularizing student-level parameters in an individualized Bayesian Knowledge Tracing model. Theoretically grounded, regularization of iBKT models, as we show, leads to increased model accuracy.

Modeling Individualization in a Bayesian Networks Implementation of Knowledge Tracing

The field of intelligent tutoring systems has been using the well known knowledge tracing model, popularized by Corbett and Anderson (1995) to track individual users’ knowledge for 15 years. Surprisingly, models currently in use do not allow for individual learning rates nor individualized estimates of student background knowledge. Corbett and Anderson, in their original articles, were interest...

A Comparison of Two Different Methods to Individualize Students and Skills

One of the most popular methods for modeling students’ knowledge is Corbett and Anderson’s [1] Bayesian Knowledge Tracing (KT) model. The original Knowledge Tracing model does not allow for individualization. In this work, we focus on comparing two different individualized models: the Student Skill model and the two-phase model, to find out which is the best for formulating the individualizatio...

Less is More: Improving the Speed and Prediction Power of Knowledge Tracing by Using Less Data

Knowledge Tracing is perhaps the most widely used student model in the field of educational data mining. In this paper we report on the effects of using only a subset of data in training the Bayesian Network that represents this student model. The standard practice is to use all of the students’ data for a given skill to fit the model. We analyze two datasets; one from the Algebra Cognitive tut...

Towards Modeling Chunks in a Knowledge Tracing Framework for Students' Deep Learning

Traditional Knowledge Tracing, which traces students’ knowledge of each decomposed individual skill, has been a popular student model for adaptive tutoring. Unfortunately, such a model fails to model complex skill practices where simple decompositions cannot capture potential additional skills that underlie the context as a whole constituting an interconnected chunk. In this work, we propose a ...
